California native and Surrealism master Craola talks to Hope about tattoos in anticipation of his new series of 6 Giclee Prints made exclusively for the Quick and Painful Exhibitions.
Quick & Painless Interview with Greg “Craola” Simkins
Will you be attending any of the Quick & Painful Shows??
September 3rd at Crewest Gallery in LA
Do you have any tattoos? If so, who did them and what are they of?
Oh man, that’s a list. Here ya go, Nick Rodin, Adam Hathorn, Gunnar, Mark Landis, Joel Bones, Rich Cahill, Joe Capobianco, Matt Shamah, Jeffery Page, Charles Hare, Mike Giant, Sparky, Luis Gonzalez, Pint, Ian Cherry and in a couple months Aaron DellaVedova will be added to the list.
Who is your favorite tattoo artist?
You put me in a tough position here since many of my closest friends are tattoo artists so I’ll plead the fifth. There are too many good tattoo artists to pick just one. I will say Gunnar and Honkey Kong always get me stoke with what ever they are working on though, be it tattoos, drawings or paintings. Jesse Smith and Alex Garcia are two guys who’s work I admire but haven’t been tattooed by yet.
Do you have a favorite tattoo that a fan got of your design? Do you have a photo?
Well, my friend Jason Jacenko in Australia has been tattooing my work from early on so I will give him the thumbs up and acknowledge him here. He has been a big support since day one and is an amazing painter, tattoo artist, all around artist.
How did you feel when you saw your art permanently on someones body?
Craola’s 6-Sheet Giclee Print Set will be available at all of the Q&P events for only $100. They will be available online at The Hope Shop starting October 9th for $120.
